About GOATOOLS

The GOATOOLS approach to GO grouping retains all of the original GO IDs returned from an enrichment analysis, but rearranges the list so that the results are easier to read or print.

GOATOOLS grouping may be desired if the researcher wishes to retain their full list of GO IDs, have control over choosing from multiple equally valid grouping decisions, and prefer to see their GO IDs in a list

The input to GOATOOLS grouping is a list of GO IDs. The output from grouping is a list of all the input GO IDs, but grouped using the hierarchy of the GO DAG structure under sections create by the researcher.

Example researcher created sections files are found in the "Add Sections File" area by clicking "Examples" and choosing a sections file. Sections files contain GO headers, which are used to collect the GO IDs below them.
